Incident #1: from Five Point Someone

Hari is Facing his Vivas but cant seem to get a single word out of his mouth.. hes terrified of publicspeaking. frustrated his examiner Cherian Says " are you a commerce student?".. Being called a Commerce Studentis the biggest insult ever for any IITian. this is one side of the coin.
Incident #2: from Taare Zameen Par

Ramshankar Nikumbh reqeusts the school principal to let Ishaan give his exams Orally since he needs time to write down answers as he is a slow learner.the reqeust is granted and rest is history as they say... (only if you have watched the movie)

when i heard about oral exams i was instantly reminded of these two incidents... the education board has introduced Orals in languages for the students of FYJC & SYJC. it is good and bad both.

lets analyse: Oral exams or Vivas as they are known as are a common occurence in the engineering and medical colleges and in schools . but introduction of orals all of a sudden at the junior college level___ i dont know.lets say if you're like Hari then you are screwed for sure and if you love speaking then dude this is maska for you.when its english orals it is party time for english medium students and vice versa when it is regional languages for the Vernaculars.but come what may the students will anyways never score full marks and will take it as an additional burden preparing for these orals.

now our education board had thought of becoming more competitive rather than theorotical.ok fine, so instead of Orals, why cant they have a compulsory book report of a classic novel in that language or probably an extempore as it will be easier to judge the students then. also the students will definitely take more efforts preparing for the exams. but then ( the contradicting soul that i am) orals can help students speak better increase their confidence while speking in front a crowd and maybe increase their vocabulary. also it will be easier for the teachers to correct smaller papers : 80 mks theory and 20 mks orals.

just imagine: 1 BOOK REPORT X 50 Pages X 3000 Junior college students = SARIDON for the poor Professor!!!

all in all this exam is probably here to stay so if you cant change it then better adapt to it.if you can crack them then nothing like it, but if you cant then take heart there are the written exams. my only advice to those facing the orals is " be sure to prepare for the orals coz they'll give you some extra marks. but if you cant, then remember orals are not the be all and aend all of everything."
